A bot is not a special kind of Instagram account. It is a normal Professional account that you have given a tool permission to read and answer messages for. "Connecting" means granting that permission through Meta's own login screen.
You never hand over your password. You approve access once, and you can remove it any time.
Business or Creator. Personal accounts cannot be connected to any official automation.
Settings β Account type and tools β Switch to professional accountA connected account is a bigger target. Protect it before you link anything.
Accounts Center β Password and securitySome tools need this switch on, otherwise they connect but never receive a message.
Settings β Messages and story replies β Message controls β Connected toolsMany tools still connect through a Facebook Page. If yours asks for one, create a Page and link the Instagram account to it first.
Which one? Pick Path A unless you want the bot to live inside your own software. Path B is free to run but takes a developer and, for public use, a review by Meta.
Send a DM with your trigger word and wait for the reply.
The tool should appear in your list of connected apps. This is also where you disconnect it.
Settings β Website permissions β Apps and websitesInstagram moves and renames its menus often, so a path here may sit one tap away from where it is on your phone. Search the setting's name in Settings if you cannot find it. Ticks on this page are not saved.
Evie is a web page, and a web page cannot touch Windows by itself. To let her open apps and change the volume on your HP laptop, a small helper runs on the laptop and takes orders only from Evie, only with your pairing code.
Not yet tried on a real Windows laptop. The helper was written without one to test on. If a step does not go as written here, tell Evie what you saw.
In Edge or Chrome on the HP laptop, and sign in. A phone cannot reach the laptop's helper β the page has to be open on the same machine.
evie-assistant.pages.devOne small file. It uses Windows' own PowerShell and installs nothing else.
Download Evie-Laptop-Setup.cmdDouble-click the file in Downloads. If a blue "Windows protected your PC" box appears, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Downloads β Evie-Laptop-Setup.cmd β More info β Run anywayThe window shows a short code. Keep it open until the next step is done. The helper now starts by itself every time you sign in to Windows.
Type the code once. If the browser asks to let this site reach devices on your local network, allow it.
β° β Settings β Laptop control β ConnectSay "disconnect the laptop": the helper stops and Evie forgets the code. To remove it for good, delete the shortcut "Evie laptop helper" from the Windows Startup folder.
The fuller guide β microphone, installing Evie as an app, "Hey Evie" β is on the guide page (Open in new tab).
